The Burmilla came about from an accidental mating of a Burmese and a Chinchilla Persian. In 1981, Miranda von Kirchberg brought home a male Chinchilla Silver Persian for her husband. Before the male was neutered, he encountered a female lilac European Burmese. The result was the birth of four black Shaded Silver shorthaired kittens. The unique appearance of these kittens prompted a controlled breeding program to establish a new breed, the Burmilla. The Burmilla is an outgoing, friendly and sociable cat that has inherited slightly modified characteristics from both of the original parents. It's not as noisy nor demanding as the Burmese, but is more adventurous and inquisitive than the Chinchilla. The Burmilla is set to become increasingly more popular because of its good looks and extremely good nature. The Burmilla is a cat of medium build, thanks to the Burmese blood in its ancestry. In Asians like the Burmilla, the female is much smaller and daintier than the male. The Asians including the Burmilla have no specific health care problems and, like the Burmese, live well into their teens. The Burmilla come in 5 colours and the coat is either shaded or tipped: Chocolate, Brown, Blue, Lilac and Black. Burmillas are great with children. Combined with their low maintenance and wonderful disposition they make an ideal family pet.
