Pain and Inflammation in Cats
Cats have very soft tissues and are very susceptible to swelling. Whenever a swelling occurs, it could be for several reasons: insect bites, stings, infections, or tissue injury.
Bee stings are usually very painful, huge and swell very quickly, and cats are usually prone to getting insect bites or stings on their paws than any other part of the body. These bites and stings are allergic in nature and goes down in less than 24 hours if there is no infection. There is recommended medications which help to reduce the swelling and stop the allergic reaction altogether.
Other bites and stings, from spiders, scorpions or other insects also produce painful, bad swellings resulting to tissue death. It is advisable to inform your veterinarian any time swellings are spotted on the paws or any other part of the cat.
Bruises, cuts, bites, and other tissue damage also produce large swellings that can cause infection to the cat. The swellings are usually painful, depending on what stage of infection. Call a veterinarian as soon as possible in severe cases. Different swellings need different medications and should not be ignored; otherwise the condition could get worse or even lead to death of the pet.
